Bitterlich’s Plotless Method for Sampling Basal Ground Cover of Bunchgrasses’

چکیده
divided into three major areas: the coast, the central valleys, and the river basins. Rainfall is less than in the Gulf Coast region, averaging from 20 to 60 inches annually. The important indigenous grasses are Hilaria semplei, H. cenchroides, Bouteloua filiformis, B. curtipendula, Cathestecum erectum, C. multifidum, Opixia stolonifera, Heteropogon contortus, Panicum spp., Paspalum spp., E I yonurus tripsacoides, and Tripsacum spp. Livestock populations are similar to those of the Gulf Coast, with beef and milk animals being the most numerous. However, goats are more important here because of the abundance of more arid vegetation. For the present, research is not being undertaken in this area, and it has been included in this discussion chiefly to round out the regional grassland picture of Mexico.

An Evaluation of Plotless Sampling Using Vegetation Simulations and Field Data from a Mangrove Forest
In vegetation science and forest management, tree density is often used as a variable. To determine the value of this variable, reliable field methods are necessary. When vegetation is sparse or not easily accessible, the use of sample plots is not feasible in the field. Therefore, plotless methods, like the Point Centred Quarter Method, are often used as an alternative. In this study we invest...
متن کاملEstimation of Density using Plotless Density Estimator Criteria in Arasbaran Forest
Sampling methods have a theoretical basis and should be operational in different forests; therefore selecting an appropriate sampling method is effective for accurate estimation of forest characteristics. The purpose of this study was to estimate the stand density (number per hectare) in Arasbaran forest using a variety of the plotless density estimators of the nearest neighbors sampling me...
متن کاملAn Assessment of the Point-centred Quarter Method of Plotless Sampling in Some New Zealand Forests
In most fields of natural science, the density of individuals is usually determined from counts in defined areas of known dimensions. When tree density is being measured, the delimitation of plots of up to a hectare or acre in area, presents some difficulties and is time-consuming. Because of the reciprocal relationship between. density and nearness of individuals to one another it is necessary...
متن کاملQuantifying the timescales over which exogenous and endogenous conditions affect soil respiration.
Understanding how exogenous and endogenous factors and above-ground-below-ground linkages modulate carbon dynamics is difficult because of the influences of antecedent conditions. For example, there are variable lags between above-ground assimilation and below-ground efflux, and the duration of antecedent periods are often arbitrarily assigned. Nonetheless, developing models linking above- and ...
متن کاملRevegetation of Medusahead-Invaded Sagebrush Steppe
Medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae [L.] Nevski) is an exotic annual grass invading western rangelands. Invasion by medusahead is problematic because it decreases livestock forage production, degrades wildlife habitat, reduces biodiversity, and increases fire frequency. Revegetation of medusahead-invaded sagebrush steppe is needed to increase ecosystem and economic productivity. Most efforts...
